Wilpattu National Park is located on the west coast close to the historic city of Anuradhapura. A dry zone forest is a land. It is home to many Villu or natural lakes. These tanks contain rainwater and are a haven for resident and migratory waterfowl. The history of Wilpattu National Park with ancient ruins is also interesting. It is said that 2500 years ago, the last native queen of Sri Lanka named "Kueni" lived here in a place called Kalli Villu. There was an ancient port called Thambapanni with a wonderful copper beach and it is said that the first invader of Sri Lanka, Vijaya came to Sri Lanka from this port.
